Which clothes?

(texto escrito pro meu curso há uns dois meses. Como eu estudo Management e não inglês, se alguém quiser me dar toques de gramática, eu agradeço.

vocabulário útil: thongs = sandálias; rubber thongs = havianas ou alguma imitação delas)

At the first week of September, from 4th to 12th, takes place in Australia the Perth Fashion Festival. The event happens once a year and in 2008 completes its 10th edition. For this special date, there are many free attractions in and around the City, which emphases the idea that fashion isn’t restricted at parades. The real fashion is on the streets and reflects peoples’ life style. This, actually, is one of the first things international students note when they come to another country. Fashion can change based on which place you are and sometimes is good to be prepared to know what is and what is not suitable.

According the Polish Magda Korecki, International Students adviser of Tafe’s Art, Design & Media courses, people in Australia have too many styles, but the main ones are the Bush Wear, used by those ones that came from the country and decided to continue dressing themselves as cowboys and cowgirls, and the Beach Wear, stamped by shorts with flowers and more common specially now, when the Spring-Summer season begins.

“The Australians are very practical in the way of dressing. In Europe, for example, people are more formal. Here, there are not some many rules. The Aussies use what they want. If you feel comfortable, that is ok”. One example, explain her, are the thongs, specially the rubber ones. “Those shoes are very popular here. People use to have a lot, of many colours and use it in all occasions. It is part of the Beach Style”.

At evening, boys continue with the basic look, while the girls invest in a sexier and fancier choice, using very short dresses or dresses with not back, sparkling, silver, high heels.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do?

If you decide to mix your country’s style with the Australian’s one, Perth has brands for all tastes and wallets. Murray and Hay Street, at the City, have a lot of good stores. One of the most famous is Myers. On Fridays the stores remain open until 9 PM.

Who wants something more glamorous and also more expensive can visit the stores of Kings Street, also in the City.

If the idea is buying without spending much, there are others department’s stores as Target and Kmart with basic items - "they have nothing special, but have good prices" – and some discount shoppings. The Harbour town is most famous one, with a lot of outlets and sales. It is easy to go, close of West City Train Station.

For those ones who want to meet Perth more deeply while do shopping, the suburbs use to have some shopping centers. Almost all they are open until 9 PM on Thursdays.

Fremantle also have good opportunities. Its market has more than 150 stalls with clothes and jewellery, besides food and craft. It is open 7 days, normally until 5 PM and Thursdays until 9 PM.
